An Encounter in Mainz: A Supernatural Experiment, Part II

Hesitantly, looking over my shoulder to see if anyone was watching, I went back. I stood there, unsure of what to do. The carvings on the stone were worn beyond recognition; there was nothing left to observe. Then, I felt the words from the Holy Spirit whisper their impression upon me: a spirit was here, and it wanted to talk if I would only be open to listening.

I felt conflicted, almost insane. But the feeling was so strong it felt disobedient to ignore it. It was not me compelling myself to this experiment, but I could feel the hand of God, the Holy Spirit, compelling me to reach out. To do what I would have normally never once considered doing.

After several minutes of indecision, I gave in. I decided to give it a test, similar to a previous experience I’d had with a loved one. In a whisper, I said something to the effect of, “I am here, and if there is something you want to say, you can say it to me. I am listening, and I am open to whatever you have to give or show me.”

The spirit's presence became overwhelming. I could feel it pushing my own thoughts aside, course-correcting me as I tried to interpret what was being relayed. In my mind, a man began to speak.

“This is my grave. I was a carpenter in the city. My name was Ignatius. Please, remember my name. I don’t want to be forgotten. Look at the state of my grave… please do not forget me. Tell others about me.”
